Nashville officials to unveil their new transit plans Thursday

You’ve been waiting in eager anticipation for new transit plans, haven’t you?

We were slated to hear from Metro consultants Wednesday on preliminary transit alternatives for the Nashville region, the culmination of nearly a year’s worth of public outreach and studies by Nashville’s Metropolitan Transit Authority and its Middle Tennessee peer, the Regional Transit Authority.

Wednesday’s wintery mix threw a wrench in those plans, canceling the RTA’s planned board meeting.

But fret not. Metro transit consultants Nelson\Nygaard will present those draft alternatives to the MTA board Thursday, weather permitting.

From what Steve Bland, the head of MTA and RTA, has told us previously, the draft alternatives will be designed as a rough starting point. In the end, following the promise of another public outreach period to solicit feedback, Bland has said a final transit plan will likely incorporate elements from the roster of alternatives. Long-term and short-term recommendations are expected from MTA by spring 2016.
